MUMBAI: The Amboli police have arrested an agent for forging signatures of officers and senior clerks of the Andheri RTO and duping several licence applicants.
Police officials believe that Nandu Bhosale has been doing this for the past six months with the help of an accomplice.
The fraud came to light about three months ago when a senior clerk, Sadashiv Moduk, came across six licence application forms for verification which bore his forged signature.
Police officials then interrogated the licence applicants who informed them about Bhosale.
"The accused used to forge signatures on application forms for duplicate licences,'' an RTO official explained.
Inspector Ramesh Kadam of Amboli police station said: "Bhosale and his partner stopped coming to the RTO when we started making inquiries. We found that Bhosale resided at Marve in Malad and arrested him last week after nearly three months of keeping watch on his home.''
Bhosale has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for forgery and cheating and remanded in police custody till June 4.
